Abstract

A porous mass for containers for storing dissolved gases is produced by introducing into the container a slurry, in parts by weight, calcium oxide 10, mineral fibre 1 to 10, water 67 to 187, silica passing 0.074 mms. screen openings 10 to 15, and a suspending agent 1.8 to 6.5, and heating to solidify the slurry and expel all water. Specified suspending agents are hydroxides of aluminium and magnesium, aluminium sulphate, sodium carbonate with a trace of sulphate, sodium aluminate, basic magnesium carbonate, phosphoric acid or a phosphate, boric acid or a borate, bentonite, singly or in admixture.
