Abstract

753,464. Spray burners. RUDLING, F. J. March 1, 1954 [Feb. 27, 1953], No. 5548/53. Class 75(1). In a liquid fuel burner primary air is supplied to a conical passage around a fuel jet B so as to impinge on the fuel from all sides, the fuel and air then flowing through a throat C<SP>3</SP> at the apex of the conical air passage into a mixing chamber C<SP>4</SP> from which the mixture flows to a combustion jet E and means are provided for rotating secondary air fed into a second conical passage surrounding the combustion jet E. The first conical air passage is formed between a conical end portion of the fuel jet B and a conical surface C<SP>2</SP> on an intermediate member C screwed on to a body A carrying the fuel jet B and containing conduits A<SP>1</SP>, A<SP>2</SP> supplying air and fuel. The conduit A<SP>1</SP> may include a needle valve for controlling the air. The second conical air passage is formed between the combustion jet E and a coned internal surface on an end cap D screwed on to the intermediate member C. The secondary air is controlled by adjustment of the end cap D on the combustion jet E. The intermediate member C contains the throat C<SP>3</SP> and the mixing chamber C<SP>4</SP> and carries the combustion jet E. The secondary air passes from the first conical air passage through four passages I in the intermediate member to an end chamber D<SP>2</SP> formed by the end cap D and communicating with the second conical air passage, the end parts of the passages I being inclined to the axis of the combustion jet to cause the air to rotate. In a modification the secondary air is rotated by passing through inclined grooves in a ring mounted on the intermediate member. Specification 635,788 is referred to.
