Abstract

Sodium or potassium hydroxides are produced by heating to 750 DEG - 1000 DEG C. a mixture of the corresponding sulphate with calcium hydroxide and then leaching out the hydroxide. Preferably the amount of calcium hydroxide used is somewhat above the theoretical weight required to convert all the sulphate.
