Abstract

A cement material for sealing and water-proofing mining shafts, excavations, slits and like underground structures, and characterized by a short setting time (e.g. lasting 5 minutes) starting after a time required for preparing, transporting and applying the material to the structure (e.g. after 15 minutes), is made by mixing cement (e.g. Portland) with fly ash (preferably 35% by weight of the cement) and adding to the dry mixture a solution of alkali metal carbonate and chloride (e.g. Na2 CO3 and Na Cl) and aluminium acetate and aluminium sulphate, the total amount of salt being preferably 15% by weight of the cement and the alkali metal salt being three times the weight of the aluminium salts. Prior art discloses cement materials containing aluminium and ferric chlorides, alkalies or water-glass mixed with pozzuolana, kieselguhr, blast-furnace slag or fly ash.
