Abstract
A puzzuolanic cement consists of a mixture of siliceous barium cement clinker and natural puzzuolanas to which gypsum may be added as a setting regulator. A suitable mixture comprises 25.75% clinker, 20-70% puzzuolanas and 0,5% gypsum, the clinker preferably containing in terms of oxides: 7-10% SiO2; 75-85% BaO; 0,5% CaO; 3-5% Al2O3; 2-5% Fe2O3; 0-2% MgO; 0-2% alkali-metal oxides. The cement may be prepared by burning either a mixture of finely divided barytes or witherite powder with silicate-containing fireclay, and pyrites; or alternatively, a natural barytes or witherite containing mineral impurities, to form the clinker which is then ground and mixed with the puzzuolanas and gypsum.
