Abstract

Alloys of Pb with one or more alkali metals are produced by dissolving Pb in an amalgam of the alkali metal or metals and eliminating mercury from the resulting composite amalgam by distillation. The original alkali-metal amalgam is obtained preferably from a mercury cathode electrolytic cell and may be concentrated in alkali metal content before adding the Pb. The amount of Pb added may be such that the atomic alkali metal/Pb ratio is between 0,1 and 3.
