Abstract
A method for producing sintered bodies of two or more metals which do not alloy with each other in the liquid state consists in reducing metal compounds, in the form of mixed crystals which contain the said metals in proportions corresponding to the desired composition of the alloy to be produced, to metal mixtures under such conditions as to avoid separation of the metals, and compressing and sintering the metal powder mixture so produced. Thus copper-iron alloys may be formed from chalcopyrite by desulphuration followed by reduction pressing and sintering. Alternatively the copper-iron mixture may be formed by reduction of mixed crystals of copper chloride and iron chloride with hydrogen.
