Abstract
751,826. Gin poles for raising derrick masts. MOORE CORPORATION, L. C. July 22, 1954 [Nov. 27, 1953], No. 21470/54. Class 78 (4). A truss joining opposite sides of a gin pole for raising an oil well mast is pivoted about the axis of its top longitudinal member 13 so that its bottom longitudinal member 22 may be secured to either the front or the rear legs. The truss may thus brace the front legs during erection of the mast and then be moved to avoid obscuring the draw-works operator's view of the travelling block and to reinforce the rear legs. As illustrated the member 13 is located within sleeves 7 at the upper ends of the rear legs 2 by collars 14, 15. The lower member 22 carries apertured lugs 23 which may alternately be bolted to lugs 24 on the front legs 1 or to lugs 27 on the rear legs 2. The usual pulley 16 for the drilling line is mounted on the member 13 while anchor brackets 8 for attachment to the usual erection sling are rotatably mounted on the sleeves 7. The front legs 1 are hinged at 5 to brackets 3 carried by the rear legs 2.
