Abstract

748,496. Reaping-machines. CRAIG, W. Y. April 7, 1954 [Jan. 29, 1953], No. 2586/53. Class 6 (3). [Also in Group XXX] A crop-cutting and loading appliance comprises a buckrake with a cutter bar 6, 7 mounted along its lowermost open edge, the device being mounted on tractor hitchlinks 8, 15 and the cutter being driven from the power takeoff 24. The rake comprises a back-rack 4 carrying attachment-lugs for the hitch-links, side-frames 3 and a floor comprising tubular beams 2 terminating in the cutter-bar 6, 7. The reciprocating cutter is driven by a jointed shaft 26 actuating a crank-disc and pitman (Fig. 4, not shown) through belt gearing 25, the pitman being arranged to reciprocate a pivoted rocker 20 whose free end is mounted between blocks on the cutter bar. Stays (Fig. 3, not shown) co-planar with the links 8 prevent lateral sway and the device may be supported in either the raised or lowered positions independently of the power-lift by chains 33 connected to fixed hooks 38 on the tractor. The frames 3 carry crop-dividers 32.
