Abstract

748,080. Broke disposal in paper-making machines. WALMSLEYS (BURY), Ltd. Oct. 12, 1953 [Oct. 10, 1952], No. 25412/52. Class 96. On detection, as by a photo-electric cell PC, or PC2, of a break in the web at any part of a paper-making machine, the web on the wirecloth M is divided longitudinally by water jets SP into strips e.g. 18 in. wide to facilitate removal of the broke as by transverse conveyers BC, BC2, and BC3, coacting with doctors D, D2, D3, or by air blast AP &c. and the curved under-surfaces of doctors SD2 or SD3, into broke pits AP1, AP2, or CP. When a break occurs, a lamp PL or PL2 illuminates a photo-electric cell, and the automatic cross-cutter CC traverses the machine but leaves a start-up strip of adjustable width, the stripwater-jets SP divide up the remainder of the web, broke conveyer and pit pump motors are started, and air-nozzle pipes turned on except over the start-up strip.
