Abstract

746,254. Bearings. ANTONELLI, L. Aug. 13, 1954 [July 7, 1954], No. 23620/54. Class 12 (1). Means for supporting a shaft 6 and rotating it about its axis comprises a cylindrical sleeve 1 mounted in ball bearings 2, 3 in a frame 4 and a cylindrical extension 7 of the shaft 6 disposed within the sleeve 1, the space between the members 1 and 7 being filled with a viscous liquid such as oil or mercury. The sleeve 1 is driven by a pulley 5 secured to its outer surface, and the drive is transmitted to the extension 7 by the interposed liquid. Axial movement of the member 7 is resisted by springs 8, 9. In a modification the member 7 is axially mounted on a pivot 13, Fig. 2. The invention is applied to a spinning spindle.
