Abstract

909,449. Injection moulding. DOWDING & DOLL Ltd. May 31, 1961 [July 6, 1960], No. 23657/60. Class 87(2). In an injection moulding machine having a screw conveyer 4 coupled to and rotated by a driving member 7 which is rotatably connected to an annular piston 13, the thrust of the piston is transmitted to the conveyer 4 through a thrust assembly which is mounted on the conveyer and can be removed to allow the screw conveyer to be withdrawn through the annular piston. As shown, the screw conveyer 4 is coupled by splines to a sleeve 7 which is carried by ball bearings 9 in a frame 10. The sleeve 7 has a gear wheel 8 attached to it which is driven by a pinion (not shown). Axial movement between the sleeve 7 and conveyer 4- is prevented by a circular plate 11 and a split collar 18. The sleeve 7 is connected by a ball bearing 17 to an annular piston 13 in a cylinder 15. When pressure fluid is fed to an annular chamber 16, the piston moves the conveyer and sleeve to the left, the frame 10 sliding on rods 2. When the collar 18 is removed the conveyer 4 can be withdrawn through the centre of the piston 13, the end of which is covered by a removable cap 6.
