Abstract
The invention comprises S:S1-diethyldithio terephthalate of the formula <FORM:0746051/IV(a)/1> and the preparation thereof by esterifying terephthalic acid with ethyl mercaptan or by reacting terephthalic acid halide with ethyl mercaptan. The latter reaction is preferably carried out in an inert solvent with or without an acid-binding agent, e.g. sodium hydroxide. In the examples, the compound is prepared from terephthalic acid halide.ALSO:A therapeutic composition containing as the active ingredient S,S1-diethyldithioterephthalate of the formula <FORM:0746051/VI/1> The composition is effective in the treatment of tuberculosis.
