Abstract

745,959. Flyer for spinning yarns. FRANE, G. W. R. Dec. 2, 1954 [Dec. 4, 1953], No. 33759/53. Class 120 (2). A flyer having frictional means for resisting its rotation in taking yarn from the periphery of a bobbin or package by means of a guide at the extremity of the flyer is provided with additional guide means engaged by the yarn as it passes in a radial plane such that the two lengths of yarn adjacent the additional yarn guiding means form an obtuse angle with one another so that their relatively inclined tensional forces will produce a resultant action through the additional guide means in a direction tending to lift the flyer and thereby reduce the loading on the frictional means. In this way any increase in the tension in the yarn will tend to lift the flyer and reduce the drag thereon thus nullifying the increase in tension and tending to keep the tension approximately constant. As shown, the flyer is made in two parts a and b, each having an eye c at one end and spaced apart in the middle to engage in a groove e in a hub member d. The top surface of member d is adapted to receive one or more loading weights f and the lower face rests upon a leather or like friction washer g fitted on top of a flanged cap h at the upper end of a yarn package i. The additional guide means h are formed separately and brazed or welded on to the two parts a and b on either side of the centre of the flyer. The apparatus is shown used on a double twist spindle.
