Class 145 A laminated door or panel for furniture, such as wardrobes, is made from a facing veneer 12 and long-grain wood veneers 10 of, for example, 2.2 mm. thickness, alternated with appreciably thinner crossgrain wood veneers 11 of, for example 0.06 mm. thickness, the veneers being bonded together with synthetic resin while subjected to heat and pressure; the mould element 14 for the panel has a ridge 15 forming a sharp bend or step 22 in the panel, the step being curved or diagonal provided that its angle is not too great with respect to the grain direction of the long-grain veneers. The upper element of the mould may be a flexible one which is inflated, or one having a contour complementary to the lower mould element 14. The lower mould element has at its margin recesses 16 for receiving a frame-like foundation, such as stiles 17 and cross rails 18a, the marginal portions of the veneer assembly being bent over so that they reach to the rear surface of the foundation and become bonded to it. After removing from the press the unit thus formed, it is placed in a jig and a sheet of plywood 19 is secured to the back of the unit by synthetic resin while applying heat and pressure. The top and bottom cross rails are contoured at the front to correspond with the contour of the veneer assembly and preferably the bottom cross rail has holes 20 formed in it to allow an approximately uniform temperature to be reached in front of and behind the veneer assembly.
