Abstract

744,538. Spring forks for motor-cycles. ARMSTRONG PATENTS CO., Ltd., [formerly ARMSTRONG'S PATENTS CO., Ltd.], and ARMSTRONG, W. March 17, 1954 [March 17, 1953], No. 7267/53. Class 136 (3). A fork suspension unit for a cycle wheel comprises a pair of arms 4 supporting an axle at their ends 4c and being pivotally attached at their ends 4a to arm support means 3 and a resilient connection between each of the arms 4 and support means 3, only one of the connections including a hydraulic shock absorber 5. Each resilient connection includes a coiled spring 14. The cylinder component of the hydraulic damper 5 has a rounded end 5b which bears on an abutment 13 of the spring 14, with the interposition of a part spherical bearing member 12. The other abutment 15 of the spring is welded at 15a. A connecting bolt 9 bears in a bore in a member 8 rigid with the end of the piston rod 7, passes through slots 5a in the cylinder 5 and is secured rigidly to the tube 3. A bump stop 11 is provided adjacent the bolt 9.
