Abstract

616,056. Vehicle suspensions; springs. SPENCER MOULTON & CO., Ltd., G., and MOULTON, A. E. Aug. 23, 1946, No. 25188. [Classes 108 (ii) and 108 (iii)] Each wheel 1 of a perambulator or other light vehicle is mounted on a stub axle 2 at the free end of the downturned arm 3 of a cranked member whose other arm 4 is mounted horizontally on the vehicle body 5 by a rubber bush or bushes 6, which resiliently resist oscillatory movement of the arm 4 about its longitudinal axis, there being a common spring unit in the form of a rubber bush 7, which resiliently joins the juxtaposed ends of the horizontal arms 4 associated with a pair of aligned wheels. The arm 4 is secured by taper pins 9 to the inner, elongated sleeve 8 of a rubber bush comprising a rubber cylinder 6 bonded both to the sleeve 8 and to an outer metal sleeve 10 which may be split. The bush is mounted in a bracket which comprises upper and lower plates 11, 12 whose flanges are held apart by rubber washers 20 and secured by bolts to the body 5. The inner ends of adjacent arms 4 are secured by taper pins 15 in metal thimbles 15 bonded in pockets formed in a rubber cylinder 7 which is itself bonded to the inner surface of a metal sleeve 17. The rubber bush is secured centrally on the vehicle body 5 by a bracket of the kind described above.
