Abstract
598,024. Road-vehicle resilient suspensions. HEALEY, D. M, Aug. 29, 1945, No. 22203. [Class 108 (ii)] In a vehicle-suspension of the kind in which the hub assembly of a steerable road wheel is pivoted to parallel upper and lower arms 17, 11 which are pivoted to the chassis frame for movement about substantially transverse axes and in which the upper arm 17 incorporates a shock-absorber 23, a coiled compression spring 18 reacts between the chassis frame and the lower link 11. The spring 18 is mounted between an abutment 20 bolted to the lower arm 11 and an abutment 19 on a transverse frame member 14. The castor angle of the king pin bracket 15 may be varied by rotation of an eccentricallymounted pin 27, Fig. 3, which connects the bracket 15 to the upper arm 17, the effective length of which may thus be varied. The arm 11 which has identical ball bearings at each end, and bracket 15, are interchangeable between either side of the vehicle. Rubber snubbing means 29 are provided to increase progressively, the rate of the suspension.
