Abstract

744,277. Batteries; mounting terminals. OLDHAM & SON, Ltd., and LENNIE, H. Sept. 8, 1954 [Sept. 10, 1953], No. 25116/53. Classes 38 (1) and 53. A battery, Fig. 1, having a lid made of plastic material has a recessed aperture 5 through which the terminal post 3 passes. The joint between the lid and post is sealed by filling the recess with a thermosetting plastic substance 6 in the liquid condition that will wet and adhere to the material of the post and also unite with the material of the lid on solidification. In an example the lid is made of polystyrene and the substance 6 of a polyester resin. In a modification, Fig. 2, in which connection to the terminal is made through a side wall of the battery the wall is provided with an inwardly projecting part 7 which is formed with a recess 5 through which the post 3 passes. The post is threaded and mechanically held in position by a nut 9 in the recess and a washer 10 below, the recess being then filled with the liquid plastic substance 6.
