Abstract

742,439. Fluid friction brakes. SOC. GENERALE PIOGGIA AR.L. ALLGEMEINE BEREGNUNGSGES. Oct. 21, 1953 [Oct. 21, 1952], No. 29003/53. Class 103 (1). [Also in Group XXIX] A rotary sprinkler (see Group XXIX) includes a hydraulic brake comprising a piston 25 within a casing 26 provided with liquid openings 30, 31. During rotation of the sprinkler the piston reciprocates against return springs 27, 28 and the braking effect of liquid passing through the openings is regulated by a screw 29 which turns a disc 89 provided with holes which correspond in one position with the openings 30, 31. Alternatively, a rotary part of the sprinkler turns a gear 63, Fig. 11, which engages a gear 65 within a casing 61 provided with oil openings 64, 66. The circulation of oil to an outer casing 62, and hence the braking effect, is controlled by a screw 60. In Figs. 12 and 13 a gear 63 drives a gear 65 within a casing 68 connected by a passage 75 with an oil reservoir 76. Oil passes through openings 77 in the gear 65 and openings 73 in a hollow carrier 71 keyed to that gear, and flows back to the reservoir. The brake is regulated by a screw 78 which displaces the carrier 71 laterally to adjust the overlapping of the openings 73 and 77.
