Abstract

1,033,158. Disc brakes. GIRLING Ltd. Oct. 26, 1962 [Nov. 4, 1961; March 3, 1962], Nos. 39569/61 and 8319/62. Heading F2E. In a disc brake a friction pad 14 is adapted to be urged into engagement with a rotatable disc 11 by a piston working in an hydraulic cylinder (not shown), the piston having an axially short head 17 and a skirt portion 18 which transmits the thrust from the head to a rigid backing plate 15 carrying the friction pad 14 and is rigidly secured to a flange 21 on the skirt portion of the piston by releasable fastening means 23 which are accessible through an opening in the radially outermost side of the caliper. The flange 21 on the piston skirt portion 18 is provided with lugs 24 adapted to engage slidably in complementary grooves in the caliper for guiding the piston and backing plate in their movement towards and away from the brake disc.
