Abstract

741,651. Radiation treatment. DE LA WARR, G. W. Feb. 1 1951 [Nov. 2, 1949], No. 28088/49. Class 81(2). Therapeutic apparatus comprises means for producing a beam of energy e.g. light, in the path of which is located an initiator, comprising a bar magnet or a conically wound electrically conductive spiral energised by air electrical supply, and modifying means comprising one or more resonators or a bar magnet rotatably located within and coaxial with a spiral or at least one colour filter, In one form of the invention a casing is divided into two compartments 1, 2. In one compartment 1, which is light-tight, is located an electric lamp 3 having a reflector 4 and in front of which is a lens 5 by means of which a parallel beam of light is directed towards a focussing lens 8 in the second compartment 2. The beam passes from the focussing lens 8 on to two inclined mirrors 9, 10 and thence through an aperture 11 in the front of the casing. In passing through the second compartment 2, the light traverses colour filters in rotatable turrets 6. In each turret 6 there is one free aperture and the turrets 6 may be arranged on rotation to present various combinations of colour filters to the light beam. Between the focussing lens 8 and the mirrors 9, 10 is a spiral 12 within which a bar magnet 12a is suspended. On the rear panel 14 of the casing resonators 12d, 12e, 12f are mounted. In an alternative form of the invention reflectors are arranged behind an electric lamp in a casing to direct three beams of light towards apertures in the front of the casing. Each beam of light traverses a separate lens 35, Fig. 5, in front of which is mounted a magnet 41. Each magnet 41 is connected to a set of resonators 13 by way of a mixing platform 46. Each resonator comprises a strip of metal of interrupted annular form secured at one end 44 and contacted by a finger 16 angularly adjustable about the centre of the annulus.
