Abstract
740,223. Window holders; hinges. KAUFMAN, A., and KAUFMAN, L. March 23, 1954 [March 24, 1953], No. 8414/54. Classes 44 and 65 (2). [Also in Group X] In a window in which sashes 1, 2, Fig. 3, are slidable in a frame F and are swingable inwardly for cleaning (see Group X), each sash is pivoted to a slide 12, 13, which reciprocates in a guideway 8, 7, the latter being lined with a sheetmetal member C. The slides 12, 13 are resilient so that the friction between their front and rear walls and the adjacent walls formed by member C, is sufficient to hold the sashes 1, 2 in position without any counterbalancing weights or springs. Each pivot comprises a J-shaped sheet-metal lug, Fig. 7, having a long arm which is passed through a slot 21 in the slide 13 and riveted thereto, and a plane sheet-metal lug 38 which is passed through aperture 37 in, and secured to, a strip 32, 33, which is rigid with the sash. The lug 38-is placed between the limbs 26, 27 of the J-shaped lug, a washer made from canvas impregnated and pressed with ureaformaldehyde resin is placed on either side of the lug 38 and a bolt 29 is passed through the assembly and screwed into a threaded opening 27<SP>1</SP> provided in limb 27. The top edges of limbs 26, 27 act as a limit stop for the pivoted movement of the sash.
