Abstract
739,474. Lubricating; mounting bearings. BLACKBURN & GENERAL AIRCRAFT, Ltd., and BELL, F. R. March 15, 1954, No. 7494/54. Classes 12 (1) and 12 (3). In a bearing mounting for a rotating part which is held concentric with respect to a fixed part by means of three limbs extending tangentially to a circle about the rotational axis, the three links, or at least two of them, are hollow and lubricant is circulated through at least one link to flow around the bearing and out through another link. As shown, the shaft I of the turbine wheel 2 of a gas turbine engine is supported by a bearing 3 in a part 4 carried by three links 5, 6, 7 which extend tangentially with respect to the rotational axis and are pivotally connected to the bearing- carrying part 4 and to a fixed part 8. Each link is hollow and lubricant flows in through a bearing member 6<SP>1</SP>, through an aperture 6<SP>2</SP> into the interior of the link 6, through an aperture 6<SP>4</SP> into a pivot member 6<SP>3</SP> and through oil ways 9, 10, 11 to the bearing 3, passing out through oil ways 12, 13, bearing member 7<SP>3</SP>, link 7 and bearing member 7<SP>1</SP>. In an alternative arrangement lubricant enters through both links 5, 6 and passes out through link 7.
