Abstract
1,044,357. Bearings. ROLLS-ROYCE Ltd. July 13, 1965 [July 20, 1964], No. 29418/64. Heading F2A. [Also in Division F1] A rotatable shaft 20 is aligned in bearings 21, 22 when in a loaded deflected condition and is subjected to higher frictional forces from the bearings 21, 22 when in the unloaded undeflected condition. An oil film is provided between the shaft and each of the bearings. In an embodiment, a gas-turbine jet-propulsion engine 10 is mounted by means of struts 11, 12 on the end of a helicopter rotor 13 and comprises an axial flow compressor 14, combustion equipment 15, turbine 16 and exhaust duct 17 all arranged in axial flow series within a casing 18. The compressor 14 and the turbine 16 are mounted on the shaft 20 which is supported by the bearings 21, 22.
