Abstract

738,845. Artificial feet. BLATCHFORD & SONS, Ltd., C. A., and BLATCHFORD, W. A. D. Jan. 13, 1954 [Jan. 23, 1953], No. 1992/53. Class 81 (2). In order that shoes having heels of different height may be worn, the angular relationship between the foot and skin members of an artificial leg is made adjustable, such adjustment being effected by rotatably mounting in the foot in front of the ankle joint, a threaded member surmounted by a resilient buffer which is kept in engagement with the bottom of the shin by a spring which tends always to reduce the angular relationship. In the foot and shin assembly shown a recess 4 in the foot houses a spring 6, angle joint 1, 2, 3 and a resilient buffer 5 the latter being mounted on an externally threaded member 9 which is threadedly engaged within an internallythreaded socket member 7 secured to, and extending through, the foot. The member 9 has hexagonal bore 9B for receiving a corresponding hexagonal rod 11 which forms a removable manually-operable key for the member. Rotation of the member 9 effects angular adjustment between shin and foot, the spring 6 preventing increase other than that occurring in use of the angle beyond that to which the foot has been adjusted.
