Abstract

737,970. Finishing fabrics. MARVEL SPECIALTY CO. Sept. 16, 1953 [Oct. 2, 1952], No. 25632/53. Class 42 (1). Apparatus for correcting distorted stiches or loops in knitted fabrics comprises a handle on which are mounted (a) a rotary head 11 carrying stitch-restoring members 14 disposed in a plane; and (b) a heating means 12 having a fabricengaging surface 32<SP>1</SP>, in such relative positions that an operator can, while continuously moving the apparatus in one direction, cause members 14 to restore the stitches of a damaged area of fabric and, immediately thereafter, apply heated surface 321 to the restored area to heat-set the stitches in their restored position. Head 11 is journalled in an insulating lining cylinder of the handle and is driven by a flexible shaft. The lining cylinder also supports an arm A carrying the heating means 12 which incorporates an electrical resistance heating element for heating surface 32<SP>1</SP> to appropriate ironing temperature.
