Abstract

777,279. Seaming bags. BERGHGRACHT, M. Feb. 21, 1955, No. 5167/55. Class 42 (1). Bag - making machines comprise gripper means, Fig. 10, for forming the bottom seams of bags, having the operative face of at least one jaw 10 of the gripper means and preferably the movable jaw formed with a flexible and resiliently deformable coating or covering, e.g. resilient blades 9, which permits it to follow intimately the irregular form of a single or multiple fold 15 of the bag bottom. The blades may be of thin spring steel and be arranged side-by-side at an angle of about 45 degrees to the opposed jaw. In alternative constructions, the deformable coating comprises loop members formed of spring steel blades or rods 109, Fig. 11, clamped in grooves 115 by strips 117, 118. Electric heater resistances are incorporated when heat sealing of the seam is required and are located in a cavity extending for the whole length of the jaw 10.
