737,834. Cow-milkers. RONALDSON, L. Oct. 27, 1953, No. 29626/53. Class 84. [Also in Group XXIX] An automatic uut-off valve interposed in a milk dropper line 23, Fig. 2, between a group of teat-cups and the main milk-conveying line 22, comprises a cylindrical transparent casing 17 sealingly clamped between end-plates 18a, 18b having nipple ends 18aa, 18bb, for connection to the lines 22, 23 respectively and a hollow piston-like valve member 24 which under normal milking conditions is urged by a spring 27 away from the upper end of the casing so that milk can flow from the line 23 through notches 26a and around the valve 24 to the line 22. In the event of a teat cup being dislodged from the cow, air will rush into the line 23 and, augmented by the suction in the line 22, close the valve 24 on to the upper seat to prevent dirt and air from entering the line 22. A separate valve member may be associated with each teat cup, in which case a cap 3, Fig. 1, connected to a teat-cup 1 and housing a piston-like valve member 6 is urged away from a seat 7 by a spring 8 during normal milking conditions.
