Abstract

1451995 Milk tube valve ALFA-LAVAL AB 3 May 1974 [4 May 1973] 19574/74 Heading AIM A flap valve unit 2, 3, 4 is inserted in the milk tube and activated by the milk flow, which allows milk to flow away from the teat cup, but prevents or inhibits flow towards the teat cup. The valve unit 2 comprises a sleeve 3 and a valve flap 4. The outside of the sleeve is cylindrical at one end and tapers at the other end. Internally, the sleeve has a stepped bore. An annular face 6 between the wide and narrow bores forms the seating for flap 4. The flap 4 consists of a disc of elastic material with a tongue 9 adapted to pass through a slot 10 in the wall 11 of the wider portion 7. In use, the valve unit 2 is placed in the milk tube (not shown), of similar bore to the smaller valve unit bore, with the tapered portion towards the teat cup and the tongue 9 retained between wall 11 and the inner surface of the milk tube, and folded so that the flap 4 is elastically biassed towards its seating 6. Flap 4 opens when milk flows from the teat cup, and closes when the flow is reversed. The impedance to reverse flow can be reduced by providing a central aperture (not shown) in the flap.
