737,592. Lathe details. FARROW, B. J. Feb. 1, 1954 [Feb. 11, 1953], No. 3816/53. Class 83 (3). Apparatus for use with a lathe comprises a member 10 to bring the tool into and out of its cutting position, an abutment 30 movable with the member, a stop 29 located in the path of the abutment to locate the latter in cutting position, and means for adjusting the too] and abutment to permit increase and decrease of the depth of cut. The member 10 consists of a cross-slide which carries a bush 12 forming a bearing for a feed-screw 13 engaging a nut 14 on the saddle 15. The screw 13 carries a handle 22 and a block 21 integral with a dial ring 20. The ring 20 carries the abutment 30 while the stop 29 is carried by an arm 27 pivoted on a plate 17 rotatable on a bush 16 and having a series of depressions 32 graduated to represent thousandths of an inch of tool-feed, to engage the rounded end of a spring-pressed pin 33 in a recess in a plate 11. In operation, the handle 22 is adjusted to the first required depth of cut, the abutment 30 engaging the stop 29 to displace the plate 17, and then rotated in the reverse direction to withdraw the tool, whereupon the saddle 15 is displaced along the lathe bed to a position beyond the start of the cut. The plate 17 is now rotated by the number of depressions 32 corresponding to the feed required on each successive cut and the handle 22 rotated to bring the abutment 30 against the stop 29. The cross-slide 10 may be mounted for pivotal movement.
