Abstract
1,215,583. Pre-setting cutting tools. DICKSONS (ENG.) Ltd. 30 April, 1968 [25 April 1967], No. 19069/67. Headings B3B and B3T. Apparatus for pre-setting cutting tools for use in a machine tool such as a lathe comprises a base-plate 1, a tool mounting 2 located on the base-plate and adapted to receive a tool holder 4 means 10-13 for adjusting the tool 5 in the tool holders and a mechanical indicator 14 which is preset to a perdetermined datum whereby through the operation of the adjusting means the tool may be preset to the required datum. The indicator 14 which is in the form of a dial gauge is preset by the location of a slip gauge 23 which bears against the indicator probe 144, or by zeroing the dial when the anvil 20 is aligned with the centre line of the pivot pin 19. The dial gauge is mounted on an arm 18 which is rotatable around the pivot pin 19 and may be locked in any of four positions, determined by holes 20, at right angles to each other. The preset tool with the tool holder is subsequently transferred to a complementary tool mounting on the lath in which it is to be used.
