A steam-operated or compressed-air operated secondary-air inlet device comprises an air inlet duct 1 secured to the furnace door 2 and leading into the furnace chamber, together with a unit comprising steam or compressed-air nozzles 14 directed towards the inlet of the duct 1, a valve 18 controlling the steam or air supply to the nozzles, a steam or air nozzle 30 situated within the furnace chamber and a valve controlling the steam or air supply to the latter nozzle.
