Abstract
734,228. Pipe joints. TREGGIA, E. March 31, 1953, No. 8833/53. Class 99 (1). In a joint particularly for irrigation pipes in which a hollow, resilient sealing ring 3 having in-turned lips 4, a number of parallel, internal reinforcing ribs 6, and a protective metal casing 7, bridges the gap between the pipes, the shape and dimensions of the pipe, ring, and casing are such that at least one of the lips is in contact with a pipe only at its tapered free end to permit relatively wide angular adjustments of the pipes. The pipes may be secured by links (Fig. 1, not shown) pivotally mounted on the casing and adapted to engage lugs on the pipe ends. In a spigot-and-socket joint, Fig. 4, in which a socket 11 is formed on the pipe 1 so that the spigot member 2 has clearance therein, the lip 12 which engages the socket is smaller than the lip 13 engaging the spigot, and the metal casing 7 is secured to the socket such as by welding.
