Abstract

318,751. Hellyer, R. H. Sept. 17, 1928. Stuffing-box joints.-In a joint between the end of a pipe B and the socket of a junction piece &c. A, fluidtightness is secured by a packing ring c of soft metal which is compressed by a gland ring d and nut E in a recess a' in the socket, while longitudinal movement of the pipe is prevented by a fixing ring b of hard metal interposed between the packing ring c and the end of said recess a<3> and adapted to grip the pipe when .the packing ring is compressed. The sides of the fixing ring b are preferably inclined to the axis thereof so that when placed in position only one of its edges bears upon the pipe Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 109,712 and 272,613.
