Abstract

732,528. Friction ratchet jacks. Lever loadhandling machines. UTZ, H. Nov. 11, 1953 [Nov. 11, 1952], No. 31278/53. Class 78 (3). A friction ratchet lifting mechanism has, in addition to the normal lifting plate C and holding plate D, a returning plate E which permits the load-supporting member B to be lowered, step by step, on the column A. Member B is lifted in the usual manner by oscillation of lever P, whilst lowering is effected by oscillation of a further lever F pivoted to plate E at R and connected to plate D by a link G. With the member B held in its raised position by the tilted plate D engaging the column A, initial anticlockwise movement of lever F takes place about pivot L and tilts plate E to cause it to engage the column, whereafter further movement of the lever in the same direction takes place about pivot R so releasing plate D and allowing this plate and member B to move downwardly. Movement of lever F in the reverse direction first locks plate D to the column and then releases plate E, so allowing it to be returned to its released position by a spring Q. Anti-clockwise movement of lever F is limited by the engagement of a stop M thereon with link G.
