Abstract
731,515. Aircraft framework. BREGUET, L. Dec. 7, 1953 [Dec. 10, 1952], No. 33984/53. Class 4. [Also in Groups V and X] Hollow rounded articles, e.g. aircraft hull and fuselage parts, of pre-stressed concrete, have main and secondary systems of reinforcements, one system being transverse to the other, the arrangement being such that the tensioning of the main reinforcements produces lateral deflections of the secondary reinforcements which are thereby tensioned. As shown, the article is cast between an outer mould 5a, comprising two hinged half shells, and a core 5, the latter having projectible pins 6 with notched tips to receive the circular secondary reinforcements 3. The main reinforcements 2 cross the reinforcements 3 at points between the pins 6 and are anchored at one end in a ring 18 which becomes an integral part of the article. The other ends are attached to a flange 16 of a sliding cap 14 actuated by jacks 15. The core 5 has rings 11 through which the pins 6 slide, annular air bags 12 being housed between the rings 11 to bear against sectors 13. When the core 5 has received its reinforcements 2, 3, the reinforcements 2 are tensioned by the jacks 15, and this pulls the reinforcements 3 into the waved form shown in Fig. 4. The core is now inserted in the mould 5a which embraces the rings 17, 18, and the concrete is filled into the mould, e.g. through the top, the mould being vibrated by means attached at 14b to the cover 14. The air bags 12 are now inflated and the sectors 13 are pressed radially outwards. When the concrete has set, the mould 5a is opened and the article is removed. The pins 6 are connected by bell-cranks 31 to a vertically slidable central shaft 32 which is locked by a nut not shown, threaded thereon and bearing on an upper web of the core 5. When the reinforcements 2 are cut between the flange 16 and the ring 17, the jacks 15 are operated to pull the shaft 32 down to withdraw the pins 6. The mould and core may be resiliently suspended on springs 29. The two shells 21, 22 of the mould 5 are pivoted at 23, 24 and may be lined internally with contiguous bars 27, arranged somewhat like barrel staves, bearing on peripheral ribs 28.
