Abstract

730,437. Bed settees. PRICE BROS. & CO., Ltd. Sept. 10, 1953 [June 30, 1953], No. 18175/53. Class 52 (2). A bed settee is arranged so that on sliding forwardly of the seat portion the arm-rests are swung about vertical axes to form a head-board to support the back-rest which is, at the same time, lowered into bed position. As shown, the main frame 1 supports a sliding seat frame 6, a back-rest 10 pivoted at 11 to the seat frame and arm-rests 13 which are carried by support members 17 and arms 14 pivoted to the main frame at 15. At each side a slotted lever 24 is pivoted at 25 to the main frame, is linked by link 27 to the back-rest 10 and by means of its slot 26 engages a roller 31 of the seat frame 6 so that as the latter is slid forwardly the back-rest is lowered about pivots 11 to the horizontal in extension of the seat frame. In addition, the seat frame 6 has two rollers 42 engaging the slots in two actuating levers 37 carried by levers 34 pivoted at 35 to stretchers 36 of the main frame. The levers 34 are linked by links 32 to the supporting members 14 of the armrests 13 whereby the sliding of the seat frame 6 causes the arm-rests 13 to move from positions at the sides adjacent the members 5 to the rearward positions shown to form a head and to support the back-rest in extended position. Mattress 21 will occupy position between mattresses 19 and 22.
