Abstract
724,413. Drying gases. BISCHOFF GES., G. Feb. 12, 1953 [Feb. 12, 1952], No. 3971/53. Class 34 (1). In a method of drying gases such as compressed air by cooling, cold brine cooled by a refrigerating system 5 is placed in direct contact with the humid compressed gas to cool it to its dew point and at least part of the resultant brine diluted with moisture condensed from the gas is reconcentrated in a concentrator 1 by direct contact with the hot compressed gas from the compressor 10, the resultant gas which contains water vapour from the brine as well as its original moisture being cooled in further coolers 2, 3 before entering the cooler 4 to contact the cold brine. The gas leaving the compressor 10 is divided into two streams, one entering the concentrator 1 and then rejoining the second stream to pass through the cooler 2 which is cooled by water entering at 13 and leaving at 14, the heat exchanger 3 through which passes the dried gas leaving the cooler 4 and then to contact the cold brine in cooler 4. Part of the brine is recirculated through the refrigerator 5 and the remainder passes to concentrator 1 through a heat exchanger 7 through which passes the brine returning from the concentrator. Condensate from the coolers 2, 3 is drawn off through conduits 15, 18 respectively.
