Abstract
701,908. Drying air; drying systems; heating air; cooling systems for engines. AGRICULTURAL & INDUSTRIAL DRYERS, Ltd., and ROBIETTE, A. G. E. Aug. 24, 1951 [Sept. 29, 1950; Dec. 8, 1950], No. 23954/50. Classes 34(1), 34(2). and 64(3) In a process for drying crops &c. by passing warm, dry air over the material to be dried and in which the warm, dry air is produced by passing atmospheric air in sequence over the evaporator of a compression-expansion refrigerating system to cool the air and condense the entrained moisture and the condenser of the same system to heat the air, the drying air is continuously recycled in a closed circuit over the evaporator 3, the condenser 4, a heatexchanger 5 supplied with heat from the prime mover 15 for the refrigerating system, the material to be dried,and again over the evaporator. The compressor 2, evaporator 3, condenser 4, heat-exchanger 5 and fan 6 are enclosed in a duct 9 which is connected to drying chambers 7, 8 by ducts 11, 12 controlled by a two-way valve 13, the chambers 7, 8 being connected by a duct 14. Cooling water passes into the engine 15 via pipe 19 and after being heated passes through pipe 20, coil 21 of a heat-exchanger 22 and pipe 23 to heatexchanger 5. The exhaust gases from the engine pass through heat-exchanger 22 to raise further the temperature of the water passing through coil 21. The material may receive a preliminary drying in a chamber 26 through which atmospheric air is blown by a fan 27. Specification 656,898 is referred to.
