Abstract

724,125. Magnetic switches. FLIGHT REFUELLING, Ltd., BROOKESMITH, F., and MACGREGOR, P. S. Feb. 16, 1955 [June 3, 1952], No. 13999/52. Class 38 (5). A float-operated switch mechanism comprises a non-magnetic partition 10 pivotally supporting at 12 an arm 13 of a depending float (Fig. 1, not shown). The arm 13 adjustably carries an armature 41 influenced by a magnet 27 mounted on one arm of a two-armed lever 23, 24 pivotally mounted at 18 on a lug 16 on the other side of the partition 10. The lever is balanced by a counterweight 32 and has a screw 30 for operating the plunger 31 of a micro-switch 21 fixed to the lug 16. When the float is in its lowest position (Fig. 2) the armature 41 is against the partition 10 whereby the magnet 27 is attracted thereto and the screw 30 operates the switch plunger 31. When the float is raised by the liquid the arm 13 is rotated counter-clockwise so that the armature moves away from the magnet whereby the latter is released and a spring within the switch 21 projects the plunger 31 and the switch is restored.
