Abstract

1,194,867. Alarm clocks. GENERAL TIME CORP. Sept.5, 1967 [Nov.10, 1966], No.40486/67. Heading G3T. An electric alarm clock is characterized by the fact that the alarm is shut off by pressing down on the clock housing. At the time for sounding the alarm a cam 42 on an index wheel 40 aligns with a slot 43 in an hour wheel 18, thus allowing axial movement of the hour wheel towards the index wheel. An alarm control lever 30, pivoted in a notch 33 in a frame plate 14, is therefore rotated in a clockwise direction by a spring 34 and releases a blade 25 secured to a bracket 26. The alarm is therefore sounded as the blade is magnetically attracted to a pole 27 of a synchronous electric motor 15. The clock rests on a surface supported by its front edge and a rearwardly disposed button 51 attached to a lever 52 pivoted at 53. The front end 54 of the lever is coupled to a vertically movable slide 55 having a cam surface 62, so that on pressing down the top of the clock housing the lever 52 moves the slide 55 downwards. The cam surface 62 engages a cam surface 61 of the control lever 30 which is rotated into engagement with the blade 25 thereby stopping the sounding of the alarm.
