Abstract
723,782. Control of D.C. motors. ELECTROHYDRAULICS, Ltd. Sept. 25, 1952 [Sept. 12, 1951], No. 21477/51. Class 38 (3). A battery-operated vehicle is driven by an electric motor having armature A and field winding F, the motor being accelerated by means of a foot controller which closes contacts Cl, C2, C3, in sequence. The foot-operated contacts are in circuit with relays which first connect the motor to the battery and then remove armature resistors R2, R3, in steps. When the foot controller has been moved to its highest speed position so that contacts C3 are closed, the vehicle can be brought to a still higher speed by pressing push-button PB to energize relay DR and to connect diverter resistance R across field winding F. The relay DR has a self-maintaining contact CDR2 so that the diverter resistance remains connected after the push-button has been released, so long as the foot controller is held in its highest speed position. Instead of using the diverter resistance R the field reduction at maximum speed may be obtained by connecting in parallel two halves of the field winding which are normally arranged in series.
