Abstract
593,530. Correspondence control systems. OSTER, L. E. W. MONTROSE-, and POLLOPAS PATENTS, Ltd. June 1, 1945, No. 13777. Addition to 473,242. [Class 40 (i)] The self-balancing potentiometer system of the parent Specification is simplified so that only one relay is associated with each direction of rotation of the balancing motor, one of the mains terminals being connected to the midpoint of a resistance shunting the field winding. In the arrangement shown, polarized relay 17 closes one or other of its contacts according to the direction of the unbalance, shunting out a normally energized relay 11, to remove a shortcircuit from the motor armature, and energizing one or other of the relays 12, 13 to complete a circuit for driving the series connected motor in the appropriate direction. When correspondence is restored, relay 17 opens its contact and relay 11 again short-circuits the armature shortly before the motor circuit is opened to provide a heavy braking action.
