Abstract

Butadiene-1 : 3 is polymerized or copolymerized with an Alfin catalyst in the presence of the impurities normally occurring in the lean butadiene streams formed by the cracking and dehydrogenation of petroleum oils. A typical lean stream includes about 18 per cent butadiene-1 : 3, about 81 per cent of n-butylene, butane and isobutylene and about 1 per cent of C3 and C5 fractions. Styrene may be a copolymerizable monomer and sodium isopropoxide and allyl sodium the Alfin catalyst.
