Abstract

1,3-Butadiene is continuously solution polymerized in the presence of a lithium hydrocarbon catalyst and a modifier of 1,2-butadiene wherein after polymerization an amount of solvent and modifier is removed by vaporization, condensed and recycled to the polymerization reactor. The solvent may be pentane or hexane and the catalyst butyl lithium. The 1,3-butadiene may be copolymerized with isoprene and/or styrene.
