722,468. Valves. DUNLOP RUBBER CO., Ltd. Aug. 6, 1953 [Aug. 28, 1952], No. 21605/52. Class 135. A valve device for controlling flow to an outlet 4 comprises a chamber 1 with pressure fluid inlet 9, 8, an annular, fluid-tight valve guide 6 for a valve 15 which closes on a seat 5 surrounding the outlet and consists of a tubular member with a transverse partition located intermediate its ends, a loading spring 16 for the valve, a restricted passage 18 for feeding pressure fluid to the chamber above the valve 15, and means for releasing the pressure above the valve so that the latter will be raised by inlet pressure until the upper end abuts against a seat 13 in the end of the chamber. Pressure above the valve is released when an auxiliary valve 25 is opened by actuation of a solenoid 20. The space within valve 15 is substantially filled by a light alloy plug 17. The two ends of the valve are chamfered to give a knife-edge contact with their respective seats. After the valve 15 has been opened, it cannot close again until the inlet pressure is relieved, but, in a modification, a passage through the cylindrical part of the valve allows inlet fluid to have access to the top of the valve at all times, and the valve will close again as soon as the auxiliary valve 25 closes.
