720,464. Generating combustion products under pressure. POWER JETS (RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT), Ltd. Oct. 23, 1951, [Nov. 1, 1950.] No. 26671/50. Addition to 582,978, [Group XXVI]. Class 51 (1). A combustion chamber comprises an outer wall co-axially surrounding an inner wall which is supported on rods which extend across the annular duct to the outer wall at each end, the rods being disposed normally to the longitudinal axis of the chamber in intersecting directions, and being a free fit so that they together form a structure ensuring co-axial and positive relative location of the walls whilst permitting radial relative expansions. The outer wall 1 is cylindrical and the inner wall comprises a flow splitter which is supported by a pair of rods 6 arranged diametrically and at right angles to each other. The flow splitter comprises a body 5 and an inner body 8, some air from the inlet 2 passing between the two bodies to have a cooling effect on the wall 5. The support rods are enclosed by fairings 9 which may swivel so as to take up a neutral incidence relative to the gas flow. Gaseous fuel is supplied into the air stream from the volute 3 through swirl vanes 4. The splitter is supported at the upstream end by three radial struts 7, and the combustion space is covered by lagging 10. The invention may be applied for supporting the flame tube of a gas turbine combustion chamber.
