Abstract

The invention comprises 21-acyloxy and 6b ,21-diacyloxy esters of 6b ,17a ,21-trihydroxy-4-pregnene-3,20-dione and the preparation thereof by reacting a 6b ,17a ,21-trihydroxy-4-pregnene-3,20-dione with an acylating agent, e.g. a carboxylic acid, a carboxylic acid anhydride or carboxylic acid halide. Examples disclose the use of acetic anhydride, formic acid, propionic anhydride and benzoyl chloride as acylating agents. 6b ,17a ,21 - trihydroxy - 4 - pregnene - 3.20 - diene is obtained by oxygenating 11-desoxy-17-hydroxycorticosterone by means of a culture of the fungus Rhizopus arrhizus.
