717,484. Treating waste effluents. KLOCKNER-HUMBOLDT-DEUTZ AKT.-GES. Dec. 22, 1952 [Jan. 17, 1952], No. 32494/52. Class 111. [Also in Group XII] Phenol-containing waste water from gas producers is disposed of by injection into burning gas within a gas producer. A fuel unsuitable for normal operation such as coal particles between 0.5 and 5 mm is blown tangentially through a pipe 11 above a grate 12 at the base of a producer 1. An annular chamber 3 supplied with air through an inlet 4 terminates in a ring of nozzles 2 through which the preheated air issues to ignite the rising gas. Into this flame zone the waste water is sprayed by a nozzle 9 supplied from a preheating jacket 7 on the conical cover. Waste gases freed from phenols are discharged through a central outlet 6 and may be used for preheating air or water or for addition to the blast of gas producers. The quantity of waste water injected is regulated so that the combustion space temperature remains above 600‹C.
